Lana Bambini - Clothing worn next to the skin of your baby should be free from toxic substances right? We think so, but were disturbed to discover it’s definitely not the case. Formaldehyde, flame retardants, alkylphenols, phthalates and a range of other synthetic chemicals are all found in clothing and bedding for babies and children from big name and ‘trusted’ brands.
Deeply concerned about the heavy use of pesticides and toxic chemicals by the textiles industry, oppressive conditions for workers and the throwaway culture that sees landfills bursting with unwanted clothing, we set out to find alternatives.
Lana Bambini is a family-run business offering high quality clothing for children which is all made from lovely natural – and mostly organic – fibres which are either unbleached and undyed or coloured with completely safe GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard) approved dyes. We are passionate about sourcing beautiful, good quality clothing and on our site you will only find products that have been made in an ethical and environmentally responsible way. No sweatshop labour, no nasty chemicals and no synthetic fabrics that will never break down.
Because we think that choosing quality over quantity and buying less generally is one of the most environmentally responsible choices you can make, we seek out garments with simple, classic designs, that are practical and really are made to last. Of course wearing hand-me-downs is the most environmentally responsible choice of all and we hope you will enjoy adding emotional value to our beautiful clothing by passing it on to lots of other children.
While we don’t like to preach, for anyone interested in learning more about the issues surrounding the textiles industry, we have a resource zone which is a section of our site devoted to gathering together some of the best resources available, including reports, studies, initiatives, blogs and an introduction to the relevant certification schemes and consortia; together with some of our own thoughts and ramblings.
