Fresh organic vegetables selected according to your personal preferences and delivered weekly to your door -- an award-winning box scheme --
We also supply organic fruit, mushrooms, free-range eggs and some meat
Situated near Newmachar, seven miles north-west of Aberdeen, Bridgefoot is an 18 acre organic farm, producing vegetables, soft fruit and eggs.
Bridgefoot has been registered as organic since 1991. Since winning the ‘Producer-owned Box Scheme’ category at the National Organic Food Awards in 1998, we have concentrated our efforts on this service and now offer an all-year-round range of fresh fruit, vegetables, mushrooms and organic eggs delivered to your door.
Bridgefoot is farmed in accordance with the standards set by the Soil Association. We follow a five-year crop rotation in the main fields, with two years under grass and clover, followed by one year each brassicas, roots and mixed vegetables. We also have three poly-tunnels and this year erected a three-bay tunnel. These tunnels enable us to extend the natural growing season and grow vegetables such as peppers and aubergines in our northern climate. We also have a number of organic free-range hens and keep cows in order to supply manure for the crops.
One of our main aims is to maintain the ‘local’ aspect to our business. To support this with our increasing number of customers we work closely with other local organic producers who grow some crops for us and supply us with their produce. Since 1999 we have also had the use of a walled garden near to Bridgefoot which has proven a great, sheltered spot for growing our sweetcorn and over-wintering crops!
Throughout the past ten years, numerous people have worked alongside Colin at Bridgefoot and the current team includes Matthew, our full-time gardener and Barbara who is administrator for the box scheme. We also have casual workers, students, and the occasional volunteer who live with us on the farm and work in exchange for board.
